MD's Note January 2013

Whether the Mayan calendar is now reset to a new beginning is a matter of theoretical debate, but what we know for sure is that the world did not come to an end in 2012. Yes, there were plenty of disasters – both natural and manmade – but we survived and are here in 2013. At this point, I think it's more important to look at where we're heading, instead of ruminating over the excesses and failures of the past.

Where are we heading with our politics, where those who play divisive cards are the ones who are iconised? Where are we going with our skewed gender equations, where one half of the nation must fight for daily survival, forget equality and respect? And what about our lifestyle choices and environmental awareness – are we ensuring a plentiful future or are we continuing the wasteful indulgences of the last century?

As Mahatma Gandhi said, we have to be the change we wish to see in the world. While it is all very well to blame others around us or those who have gone before us for leaving behind toxic legacies, it is ultimately our own responsibility to take charge of the situation we now find ourselves in – in society, governance and environment. It is
up to us to make sure that the new year is a fresh new start in terms of both inner and outer growth, and a resolution to be positive.

At Creative Nest Media, we are beginning the year on a hopeful note. Having launched two magazines in two years, Atelier in 2011 and Atelier Diva in 2012, this year promises more expansion and reasons to cheer. We would not have come this far without the consistent support of our readers and business associates. I take this opportunity to thank you all for being there with us as we grow from landmark to landmark, and I hope that we're able to live up to all your expectations in 2013 as well.

A very happy and prosperous New Year to you all. Keep reading and growing!
